Regeneration briefing February 2008

Key issues:

·        Everything to be “secure by design” – see ODPM document “Safer Places” for requirements of outdoor areas / routes.   (It would be a good thing if all the regeneration buildings/ developments were not just built to Secured by Design Standards but with Secured by Design Accreditation. What a marketing advantage Gloucester would have if this were the case.)

·        24 hour supported accommodation

·        Secure racks with locks for bikes and motorbikes

·        Secure cycle shed in city centre

·        Secure car parking, particularly at night - Upgrade car parks to “Safer Car Park” accreditation

·        Improve lighting of public spaces, and features that encourage people to use them e.g. play areas, skate board area, outside cafes and performance space

Project proposals (GHURC site if known):

·        Alcohol-free youth centre where “diversion strategies” may be applied (Greyfriars)

·        Community policing office
